Coady competed for England at the young level, earning a spot on the team that won the 2010 UEFA European Under-17 Championship and leading the under-20 squad in the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup. He made his senior team debut in 2020 and was a member of the side that finished second at UEFA Euro 2020.

Coady has competed for England in youth divisions from under-16 to under-20. For the England national under-17 football team, he has received 17 caps. He participated in and served as captain of the England squad in the 2010 UEFA European Under-17 Championship in Liechtenstein. His side won the competition, making history as the first England team to do so in 17 years.

Later, he participated in the 2012 UEFA European Under-19 Championship in Estonia, where England advanced to the semifinals before being eliminated by Greece. Peter Taylor, the manager of the England under-20 squad, appointed him captain for the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup. On June 16, he made his team debut against Uruguay in a 3-0 victory in a preseason game. He scored against Iraq in the first match of the group stage on June 23.

Coady became the first Wolves player to start for England since Steve Bull in 1990 when Gareth Southgate called him up to the senior squad in August 2020 for the Nations League games against Iceland and Denmark. Coady started in center defense against Denmark on September 8 in a 0-0 tie. Sky Sports named Coady the game’s man of the match. Coady’s first goal for England came in his second appearance, a 3-0 friendly victory over Wales at Wembley, on October 8, 2020.

Coady was a member of the England team that finished second at UEFA Euro 2020, which took place in 2021. Even though he didn’t participate in any games, assistant manager Steve Holland named him England’s “player of the tournament” because he compared his presence in the team’s camp to that of John Terry’s when he played less frequently in his final years at Chelsea.
