Jason Statham was born on July 26, 1967, in Shirebrook, Derbyshire, England, however some sources claim he was born in 1972. His father, Barry Statham, worked as a street vendor and singer, and his mother, Eileen Statham, worked as a dancer.

Soon after, the Englishman relocated to Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, where he began studying martial arts and football. He also practiced diving while in school and was a member of his country’s national diving team.

Statham competed in three separate diving events for England at the Commonwealth Games in 1990. He was ranked number 12 in the world as a platform diver two years later. Statham was quickly discovered by a sports promotion agency, who signed him as a model for French Connection.
